What does it mean to be a woman?
The examination of social issues through studying the dynamics of the intersection of different systems of oppression is an incredibly important lens we must use in our discussions and approach to thinking about feminism.
What does this concept mean, both in a social, psychological, and biological context? What are the burdens that come along with it? What does it mean to each individual personally to identify as a “woman?” In this day and age, definitions of “woman” are diverse. The discussion also covered different “subsections” of feminism, such as race, LGBTI issues, wealth, and others. In talking about how to approach feminism, many people believed that focusing on one “subsection” was fine, as long as perspectives did not become too parochial. The topic of how culture can influence women’s issues came into play as well in addition to societies of other nations. In the end, it was agreed upon that education was the most important tool to help fix these problems.
